Series 1: C-Bay

  • We got each other once apiece stealing third with no one holding on second.
  • Two of three SB attempts against Castro were successful. Commish thinks he will lead in CS as well as SB, simply because the attempts will be so high.
  • C-Bay is loaded w/ switch hitters—game 2 saw four in a row, for a total of six lefty bats against Hill.
  • Need to keep an eye on Timlin (H) with runners on. I left him in with the tying run at the plate, Hamilton. That increased the deeps from 21 to 68! In fact, he rolled a true deep and had, I think, 36 or higher to homer, but rolled under. Whew!
  • My defense chart wasn’t very useful.
  • TV pitchers hit four batters.

Titusville at C-Bay
Saturday before the G-men would end up shocking the world in the Super Bowl the Titusville Perfectos traveled to the Yard to play their first games in franchise history.

Game # 1
Lilly vs. Harang
C-Bay struck first in the top of the 2nd with a lead off solo homer off the bat of Nick Swisher for an early 1-0 lead. The Perfectos tied the game in the 4th after Utley singled and Burrell walked. Then Lenny caught C-Bay sleeping not holding Utley at 2nd base and Chase easily scooted over to 3rd. Ludwick hit a fly ball to play Utley for the first run in T-ville history. Pat Burrell led off the 6th with a deep solo homer for a 2-1 T-ville lead. Hank Blalock went deep in the same inning for another solo shot and 3-1 lead for the expansion Perfectos. Lilly was on fire for Titusville tossing 7 innings of 2 hit ball and only the one run allowed. The Perfectos blew the game open in the 8th and 9th innings scoring four more run as Hank Blalock only felt a double short of hitting for the cycle. Ryan Dempster pitched a 1,2,3 9th as the Perfectos won their first game in franchise history. Final Score: TV 7 CB 2

Game # 2
Hill vs. Gallardo
Rainy night in the night cap as C-Bay was looking for a split with a quick start in the first inning. Josh Hamilton singled in Hafner for an early 1-0 lead. Ryan Freel singled in Vidro in the bottom of the 2nd and the Cats looked to be rolling a bit early. The powerful bats of the Perfectos woke up in the top of the 3rd inning with a Jimmy Rollins RBI triple to score Hill. Then doubles from Utley and Burrell quickly made it 3-2 T-ville. The Big Dog Ryan Howard went deep with a 2 run shot in the 5th off Gallardo with a odd roll on the “R” for a 5-2 lead. Vidro ripped a two out single in the bottom of the 5th to make it a two run game. T-ville put some more insurance on the board in the 7th after a Betemit error, Pat Burrell left the yard with a deep homer to left center for a 7-3 Perfectos lead. C-Bay made things interesting in the 9th by loading the bases and bringing up the tying run to the dish. Josh Hamilton would hit a deep blast to right center that fell short of the 36 needed to tie the game as one run scored on the Sac Fly. New pitcher Troy Percival came in and struck out Victor Martinez to nail down the save and the sweep for the expansion Perfectos. Final Score: TV 7 CB 4
